John Brodeur is preparing for a nationwide tour in support of 'Tiger Pop Ten'
John Brodeur is a singer songwriter originally from Albany, NY. He relocated to NYC a few years ago and is preparing to take his newly spit shined and remastered first CD release ‘Tiger Pop’ on the road for quite an extensive tour across the country. And we mean across the country. He begins in Philly and gets all the way to California up to Seattle and back east. The new project ‘Tiger Pop Ten’ celebrates his first solo release with a new version which includes new songs, new versions and new energy. Recently we caught up with the busy troubadour to talk about the project, his career and the tour. Here it is: Continue reading →

The Line Up
So I’m standing near the entrance to the lobby of the ‘Exit Dome’, which is really the WMHT television studio, talking with Dave Michaels from WEXT. ‘Hey thanks for coming’ he says to me. Immediately after this statement he tells me that the guys from the Charlie Watts Riots are ‘getting their party on’ in the green room. It’s not yet 7pm on Saturday and the crowd is just beginning to really start to trickle in and the Charlie Watts Riots are tying one on in the back.
This is the ‘Exit Dome 4′ concert. The fourth installment of the show since the inception of 97.7 WEXT 3 1/2 years ago. Their motto is ‘leave regular radio behind’ and one way they live up to this promise is to play ‘local 518′ music. This means local bands. And they do it. A lot. Through in studio interviews, radio play and shows like this they have spearheaded a movement to expose the talent in the region to a larger audience. Tonight will prove to be no exception. It’s 2011! Four years away from the flying cars of ‘Back to the Future’. Well, maybe not, but that’s ok. 2010 is behind us and we can look forward to the future. A year with out any Train songs.
Everyone does year end countdowns, best of lists and the like. We thought about it. We really did. Instead we’re just gonna run down some likes, things we wish happened, didn’t happen and hope will never happen again. Fun right? Let’s get to it. Continue reading →

Oh the wonderful world of the independent musician. So much good advice. So much conflicting advice. So much less opportunity because the Internet killed the music business. So much more opportunity because the Internet is the great leveler! Yikes.
Well, there’s a few contradictions in the title of the post. MTV didn’t kill radio. Radio may suck overall because each station plays 3 songs over and over and over, but radio is still going, but MTV killed itself. At least the music part. Do they even play videos anymore? And the Internet hasn’t killed the music business. Labels just don’t have a monopoly on who gets heard or get to dictate how much money they make. Poor them. Let’s all have a moment of silence. Now that that’s over, let’s get back to it.
So what do you do? Where do you go? Don’t let go of that day job just yet. Wait, Myspace will get you a record deal. In the past 5 years or so there has been a huge shift in the way people get information and purchase (or just steal) music. Continue reading →

Since I titled my blog, Talk About the Passion, what more fitting first entry but a discussion of the album that inspired it: R.E.M.’s ‘Murmur’.
Anyone who knows me knows what a huge REM fan I am. I have only ever really freaked out about 2 bands: The Beatles, and REM (well to a lesser extent Radiohead, but not like the other two). And when I say freaked out I mean listening over and over to every song. Listening to every word. Every harmony. Every riff. Grabbing a guitar and trying to learn each song. Dancing around my apartment singing along pretending I was on stage with them. Yeah, freaking out. Continue reading →

So you’re starting a music blog eh? Original. Pioneering. Visionary! You’ll go down in history as the FIRST ONE to do this. Like Al Gore and the internet. And it’ll be fun. And easy.
Ok ok. I know. There’s a guadzillion blogs out there and a tribillionaire are for music. (In the effort to stay on the cutting edge I’m making up new number names. I think that’s more inventive than Google naming themselves after a number. You decide). But here I go anyway.
The idea for this has been brewing for sometime now. There is no big ah-ha moment really, but here are a few of the contributing factors. Continue reading →
